Do you have dry age-related macular degeneration? Would you like to participate in a research study?
Posted: Thursday 06 September 2018Researchers in Southampton and other sites are inviting people with dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD) to take part in a study investigating whether they have a specific gene change causing their condition.
This research aims to identify patients with a specific form of dry AMD who could be recruited to a clinical trial for a new treatment.
Volunteers are invited to come to either Southampton or another clinical site if nearer to their home for up to 2 hours on two occasions to have a blood test (travel expenses of up to a £100 per visit will be covered). It is not guaranteed that all volunteers will be eligible for the trial, but if they are they will be asked to come back to have some photos taken of their eyes. If you think you may be interested and would like more information, please contact the lead research team on EyeResearch@uhs.nhs.uk with the reference SiGht study and stating your closest research site.
Please note if you have had an injection into your eyes for wet AMD or do not currently have vision loss as a result of the AMD then you are not eligible for this study.
