New series of videos for visually impaired workers and job seekers

Have you struggled to find employment as a visually impaired person? Or, maybe you have lost a job due to sight loss.

When someone of working age is diagnosed with macular disease one of the first concerns they have is whether they will be able to find work, or are going to be able to continue working.

We've teamed up with Support4Sight in Essex to create a series of videos, exploring the challenges of employment and looking for work as a visually impaired person.

The series of 10 videos cover all aspects of employment and job seeking, from telling your employer that you have sight loss to how to write a great CV.

Colin Daniels, working age and young peoples’ service manager at the Macular Society, said: “It generally takes someone with sight loss twice as long to find work. So, it is not only important to have the right skills to find a job but also to understand what your rights are as an employee.”

Zsuzsanna Hybel, employment manager at Support4Sight, added: “It is important to ensure that appropriate support is available regardless of someone’s employment situation.

“With personalised support at the right time people can make an informed decision about their circumstances. These joint videos will increase the support that both Support4Sight and the Macular Society can offer.”
