Join us in Beating Macular Disease
Are you looking for an opportunity to use your coordination and organisational skills to support a cause that makes a real difference? Join the Macular Society and play a key role in helping us Beat Macular Disease by supporting our governance and leadership across the charity.
About the Macular Society
Macular disease is the biggest cause of sight loss in the UK, with around 300 people diagnosed every day. We're the only UK charity determined to beat the fear and isolation of macular disease through:
- World class research to find new treatments and a cure
- Practical support for people affected by sight loss
- Trusted advice and support services that empower those living with macular disease
About the role
Reporting to the CEO, the governance and executive support officer will work closely with our ambitious Senior Leadership Team and Board of Trustees to enable effective governance and leadership across the charity. The post holder will play an essential role in coordinating work across the organisation and helping us to Beat Macular Disease.
Whilst providing administrative support and diary management, the highly organised post holder will support the CEO with internal communications and policy coordination, as well as owning and managing key organisational resources such as our risk register, compliance register and policy register.
As a natural collaborator and excellent communicator, the post holder will have experience of supporting complex meetings and providing high quality governance support at Board and Committee meetings.
As the governance and executive support officer, you will:
- Plan, coordinate and support meetings for the Board of Trustees, its committees and the Senior Leadership Team, including agendas, papers, minutes and follow-up actions.
- Own and maintain key organisational governance resources, including the risk register, compliance register and policy register.
- Support organisational governance activity, including AGMs, governing document reviews and liaison with regulators.
- Coordinate the development, review and approval of organisational policies, ensuring agreed review cycles and effective communication to staff.
- Support the CEO with internal communications, diary management, travel arrangements and general executive administration.
- Provide high-quality administrative and meeting support, including expense processing, correspondence and coordination across teams.
About you
Our ideal candidate will have:
- Experience supporting complex meetings, providing high-quality governance support, and assisting a CEO or senior leader to enable effective organisational leadership.
- Highly organised, able to manage competing priorities, respond to urgent requests, and coordinate complex programmes of work.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage senior stakeholders and colleagues across a range of roles with tact and diplomacy.
- Excellent attention to detail, including drafting formal documents and minutes, and handling confidential information with discretion.
- Strong IT skills and familiarity with new technology platforms, with an understanding of the charity sector and governance; knowledge of sight loss or macular disease is desirable.
