Support worker (West Sussex)

Closing date: Sunday 27 October 2024

Location: Office or home based with easy access to Haywards Heath.

Salary: Self employed or via agency - Part time 27 hours per week - Fixed-term until 31 March 2025.

Are you an experienced personal assistant who would love to use your skills to help us Beat Macular Disease?

Are you somebody who would love to use your administrative skills to help support a visually impaired employee within Macular Society?

Macular disease is the biggest cause of sight loss in the UK, with around 300 people diagnosed every day. The Macular Society is the only charity determined to beat the fear and isolation of macular disease with world class research, and the best advice and support.

The role

The role will work closely with the research intern, making strong communication and listening skills essential. The primary responsibility will be to assist with sighted tasks that the intern cannot complete using assistive technology. This is a professional position focused on providing support related to the intern’s work, rather than personal tasks.

If you have good all round administrative and communication skills with willingness to learn and are comfortable around dogs (the employee is a guide dog owner), then we would love to hear from you.

As this is an administration role, a knowledge of Microsoft Office suite is essential, and a knowledge of database is desirable.

In return, we provide a great working culture – we do something worthwhile and are proud to work together to Beat Macular Disease – as recognised by our inclusion in The Sunday Times Best Places to Work 2023 list.

We are passionate about treating people fairly and as equals, doing so is instinctive to us. We know that to Beat Macular Disease for all we have work to do. That’s why we are keen to hear from people of all backgrounds who have the skills and experience we are looking for. We particularly encourage applications from people from under-represented groups, to help ensure what we do and how we do it is inclusive – for everyone.
