Trusts and philanthropy
We would like to thank all of the charitable trusts and foundations who have generously supported our vision to end macular disease. Macular disease is the biggest cause of sight loss in the UK and all our income is fundraised, so we are entirely reliant on donations from our kind supporters.
These donations are enabling us to fund the research needed to find new treatments and ultimately a cure, and make a positive difference to the lives of some of the 1.5 million people in the UK who are already affected by macular disease. If you are a trustee of a charitable trust or foundation and would like to explore how you can help to Beat Macular Disease, please email the Trusts and Philanthropy team at trusts@macularsociety.org.
“We’ve funded the Macular Society since 2016 and during this time it has been heartening to be able to help the charity reach those affected by macular disease through the Society’s people-focused services which provide friendly, practical and emotional support. Together, the Macular Society and the Linbury Trust are improving the lives of people experiencing the disadvantage of sight loss, especially older people more vulnerable to isolation because of their visual impairment.”
- Director, The Linbury Trust
“The RS Macdonald Charitable Trust has funded the Scottish work delivered by the Macular Society for a number of years. During this time we have seen growing provision of support groups. Each derive connectedness for people with macular disease and access to information, technology and, above all, friendship and an opportunity to overcome the very real risks of isolation and loss of independence. We know the very real difference the volunteers bring to people facing sight loss across Scotland.”

Support from the National Lottery Community Fund
The National Lottery Community Fund is currently funding our work in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, with grants totaling £1.9 million. This provides practical and emotional support to people living with sight loss caused by macular disease.
On behalf of the thousands with macular disease, we thank players of the National Lottery who have made it possible for people to get the advice, information and support they need to manage their sight loss with confidence, independence and hope.
